Uneik Jewellery is located in Haddon, Victoria - a few km's from Ballarat.  (Ballarat is located about 120km west of Melbourne)

I decided to start Uneik Jewellery after I made a pendant for myself that had my 3 children's fingerprints in it.  My first attempt, not a fine piece of jewellery, but it was my children's prints!

I started to wear my pendant and people started to comment; "I love your necklace".  Then I would explain that it was actually my children's fingerprints incorporated in the design  - The idea was a hit! 

This first design was silver in colour and was made from a clay like material, not something that was easy to work with and you had to bring the child to the clay and you would only have one attempt at getting a good print. I have kids, and I know they don't always co-operate. :)  Also as I wear gold jewellery normally I wanted something better.

There was my challenge; I needed to find a way to get a clear, detailed fingerprint that I could then work with to produce a precious piece of sterling silver or gold jewellery.

What followed was 7 months of alot of trials and many errors - but what I was able to develop was a simple to use ink capture kit, that allows you to take as many prints as you need to until you get a print that you are happy with.  The kit can be used over a number of days or weeks, so you can find that 'perfect' moment when your child is happy to be involved. (Its even so simple you can do it while they are sleeping).  The form used to capture the prints is then placed in the pre-paid and addressed envelope and dropped in any post box.  (No need to go to the post office to post back a parcel) 

Once your prints reach me, and with the aid of computer technology, your prints are transformed into your own 'Uneik' jewellery piece.

The complete process is now a registered patent of Uneik Jewellery (IP Australia Patent 2008100644)
